Objectives

1. To offer intensive courses in Kannada, Malayalam, Tamil and Telugu.
   for the in-service graduate teachers through language laboratory method in three slabs, viz., basic, intermediate and advanced courses (special emphasis being given to speaking, and comprehension in the first stage, speaking, reading and writing at the subsequent stages);

2. To train teachers in the methodology of teaching the language by giving them linguistic orientation to enable them to prepare teaching material and use it in their institutions after the completion of the course. The Centre also help the teacher has set up book corners.

3. For this purpose, the centres undertake the preparation of instructional material and formulation of techniques for simplifying the teaching of languages and reducing the time element in the learning of languages through the use of the latest techniques of linguistics and language teaching including the use of language laboratory.

4. In addition to teaching, Centre is preparing need based teaching materials by conducting workshops and National seminars which will in turn lead to national integration.

5. During the training period, the salary of the teachers & Monthly Stipend deputed by the State Governments is paid by the Institute.

6. As an additional incentive, the teachers, after successful completion of training, start teaching the language to a minimum of 10 students then they will be given two advance increments, the expenditure on this is being borne by the Government of India for a period of five years.
